CV: Mehveş Demiren was born in Istanbul in 1959. She studied at the Lycee Notre Dame de Sion in Istanbul and at the University of Strasbourg II, where she obtained a degree in sociology in 1982. She started ceramics in 1985 and for seven years was apprenticed to famous Turkish ceramist Ayfer Karamani in whose workshop she studied. With her encouragement, in 1989 she opened her first solo exhibition and three years later started her own workshop. Her main inspiration has been the colours of her country and theTurkish culture, Seljuk civilisation, colours and motifs of Turkish carpets and her work reflects this. Alongside individual pieces she has made numerous objects for the purpose of decorative home furnishing for interior decoration. In her most recent works, wherein she always aims to procreate and remindful of Turkish ceramic art, she was especially inspired to use the motifs, colours of the İznik (Nicean) ceramics and Ottoman designs. In Turkey her work is exhibited at the Sadberk Hanım Museum, which houses the Turkish art treasures of the Koç family, the Aksigorta Insurance Company, the Balnak International Transport Company, Brussels the TÜSİAD house and can be seen in many private collections.
